Wrestling
Wrestling is the art of taking an opponent to the ground and controlling them. It has been underrated in the martial arts community until the birth of mixed martial arts within the last 10 years. In mixed martial arts events, high level wrestlers are able to neutralize a strong boxer or kickboxer. Once the boxer or kickboxer is taken to the ground, the fight is lost for them as they can no longer implement their striking. At North Broadway, we train high school and college wrestlers, as well as Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts students preparing for a match or fight.
Our wrestling program is led by Dave Mirikitani, All-American wrestling coach from St. Louis Community College. A member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame, Dave won 3 Missouri State High School Championships and was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament twice. On the national level in high school, he placed 1st at Nationals in Greco Roman and 2nd in Freestyle. At the Junior National tournament, he placed 8th in Greco Roman. At the 20 and under nationals, he placed 3rd in freestyle, 4th in Greco Roman. Dave was a 2 time Junior College All-American Wrestler , placing 7th and 2nd in Junior College competition. He was a wrestler at Iowa State. Dave competed for Team USA in the Pennsylvania Classic and Oklahoma Classic. He placed 5th in the U.S. Olympic Festival and 6th in the Austrian Grand Prix.
